$243 Million Highway Shake-Up: El Paso’s Artcraft Road Is About to Change Everything
In one of the largest infrastructure investments in recent years, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has officially broken ground on a $243.7 million mega project to completely overhaul Artcraft Road in El Paso — and residents are already buzzing. The massive project will stretch from Interstate 10 to New Mexico State Road 273 (Pete Domenici Highway) and is expected to expand Artcraft into a modern four-lane divided highway. Alongside that, plans include constructing multiple grade-separated intersections, improving traffic flow, and enhancing safety for both commuters and freight drivers. “We’ve heard the complaints, and we’re taking action,” said a TxDOT spokesperson during the ribbon-cutting event. “This corridor is essential not just for El Paso, but for cross-border trade and regional growth.” The project is slated for completion in 2029, and while that timeline may sound distant, construction will roll out in phases — meaning traffic disruptions could begin soon. Local businesses have expressed both concern and excitement, worried about short-term access but hopeful for long-term growth. Could this project turn El Paso into a new logistics hub for the Southwest? Many believe so.
